Never Say Die! The Goonies Is Coming to Spooky Pinball

Never Say Die! The Goonies Is Coming to Spooky Pinball

Well, this is one rumor we can finally put to rest. Spooky Pinball has officially confirmed that its next big release will be based on the 1985 classic The Goonies.

If you grew up in the '80s, there's a pretty good chance this movie holds a special place in your collection of childhood memories. A group of kids, a treasure hunt, underground tunnels, booby traps, and a pirate ship full of gold. Honestly, it's hard to think of a movie that gives pinball designers more to work with.

And the best part? We don't have to wait very long to see it. Spooky has set the official reveal for Friday, November 13th.

A Perfect Fit for Pinball?

The Goonies is one of those movies that seems almost made for a pinball machine. There's no shortage of memorable scenes and characters to pull from, and the whole story is built around an adventure. Between the Fratellis, Data's gadgets, Chunk's unforgettable moments, and the search for One-Eyed Willy's treasure, there's plenty of potential for some fun gameplay.

For a lot of collectors, a theme can make or break a purchase. Gameplay will always be important, but there's something special about owning a machine based on a movie, band, or character you've loved for years. The Goonies definitely checks that box for a lot of people.

What We Know So Far

Spooky hasn't shared the full details just yet, but there are already a few things worth mentioning.

The Goonies is expected to be a widebody game, with two versions reportedly planned. Current information points to a standard run of around 1,300 machines, along with a much smaller Super Limited Edition run rumored to be approximately 85 units.

Christopher Franchi is handling the artwork, and what we've seen so far looks fantastic. It's a great match for the movie, and I'm looking forward to seeing how the finished cabinet and playfield come together.

There's also talk that the game will have a very complete ruleset right out of the gate. That's always nice to hear. Spooky has a history of continuing to build on its games after release, so it'll be interesting to see what they have planned beyond launch.

Of course, we'll have to wait until the reveal for official confirmation on pricing, features, and the full package details.

Mark Your Calendar

It's been fun watching this rumor make its way around the pinball community, and now we finally have something official to look forward to.

The Goonies is a movie with plenty of nostalgia behind it, but it also has the kind of characters, locations, and moments that could translate into a really entertaining pinball experience. I'm especially curious to see what Spooky does with the pirate ship and the underground treasure hunt.

We'll know a whole lot more on November 13th.

Until then, keep an eye out, because this one could be a lot of fun.

NEVER SAY DIE!
